Eli Project One Idea
Project One Idea
For my project I would like to explore is how pollution is helping lead to the extinction of many different species as well as natural ecosystems across all of earth's bodies of water. This can be seen in the dead zone present in the gulf of Mexico as well as the destruction of many smaller ecosystems along rivers lakes and ponds. For this project i would like to show a future where all of eaths water has essentially been turned into polluted sludge.

Project 1 Ideas
In my idea for project 1, I am planning to develop the idea of over-deforestation on the landscape and everyday lives of people in the future. Taking a bit of inspiration from The Lorax, I plan on creating an environment where humans have replaced trees with their own mechanical creations, and only a few actual trees are left, contained within glass 'bubbles.'
I am thinking to focus the images on 1. the new landscape, 2. the people's reaction, and 3. the protest against the 'modern way of living' with no trees. This may change slightly as I investigate the source material more. Also, I plan on the people living in reclaimed warehouses possibly, while seas of concrete take the place of grass.

The improvement of artificial limbs and the increasing intimacy between people and technology on an every day basis is not merely speculation at this point in time. I believe that this ever persistent drive to bring us closer will make for a set of images that could be both utopian and dystopian at once, able to reflect the advantages of the ever more connected world, while showing the drawbacks of always being so intimately connected to at all times to computers.
For my images, I would focus on this duality, as well as possibly exploring how this effects how we interact with the world and how it interacts with us.

Patrick's Project One Idea
I would like to focus on consumerism for my first project, specifically the rise of so-called "mega-brands." In this unfortunately bleak future only a handful of companies have survived and they each have monopolies over different things, some of them vital to human survival. For example, Amazon controls the entire water industry and can charge whatever they want for a bottle of water. Amazon water fountains are installed everywhere and you have to pay to use them. The government at this time is doing nothing to regulate the market, so this complete control of the marker it completely legal. This is going to be meant as a huge over-exaggeration (hopefully), but the message is that brands such as Amazon and Disney are becoming more and more powerful and are starting to have a lot of control over our lives.
I'm not yet sure entirely how I'm going to represent this future, but it will likely just be a range of modified photos that add in my own elements to depict this dystopia. I may include a Disney World scene, an Amazon center, and newspaper clippings.
Sean's Project One Idea
My idea has to do with technology and the environment. As everyone should know by now, air pollution is a serious problem in today's world. We've come to a critical point in history where humans are close to doing irreversible damage to our planet because of climate change.
In a utopian world, I assume there would be little to no fuel emissions used by transportation methods, reducing the severity of global warming. Major means of transportation, standard cars, semi-trucks, planes, boats, etc. would be all-electric.This future is not far away as more and more commercial vehicles are becoming all-electric. So why wouldn't we go all out and produce planes and boats (major air polluters) the same way?

I would like to visualize a utopian world where fuel emissions by means of transportation are no more and possibly an alternate, dystopian world where they are at its peak.

Project One Idea
For the first project I would like to imagine a world where actors are obsolete and all movies are entirely made with CG. Everything in movies will be created from scratch, even voices will be artificial.

This is an idea, that I can see happening more and more with movies nowadays. We have seen many characters on screen that are entirely computer generated, and movies like the Lion King, that are 99% CG yet are still called "live action." Artificial voices have also come a long, way, but I think that is a bit further off.

I think there are a few cool ideas to explore with this future. For instance, actors that have passed away, could be fully recreated digitally to take on new roles. This could be seen as a great accomplishment or it could be seen as a disingenuous money grab. Another possibility to explore would be that companies could use the likeness of current actors and put them out of work.

Bee's Project One Idea

Likely coming as a surprise to no one, I'm interested in exploring the world after the extinction of all natural pollinators and what that world could possibly look like. While we are largely focused on honeybees as pollinators in danger, I think that part of that focus is a bit self centered because of our direct benefit from them in the form of honey! However, in reality all pollinators are in danger; hummingbirds, bumble bees, mason bees, leaf cutter bees, and the list could go on. We are the cause of this rapid decline in population, largely due to the pesticides widely used and the unsafe practices with them that we have allowed to continue. I can see several possibilities in this future.
1) Help wanted ads from farms, seeking mass quantities of manpower for manual pollination.
2) Ads for customize-able, personal, or the best pollinator tools! (or maybe amazon listings)
3) Images of people out in the fields working the newly created job position of manual pollinator.
Project one
For Project one, I want to venture into the idea of balancing nature and technology. Both are good things, however technology has started to take over and consume our lives. The industries have started to cause more harm than good, causing pollution and harming the earth. We can use technology for the good. I want to create images that depict a world where the two are balanced. A world where technology is used, but nature comes first. The environment comes first, and people love and nurture it. That would be my ideal world.
Sasha's Project One Ideas
1. Island of
trash in the middle of the ocean
2.
Animals having nowhere to go in the ocean due to
trash
3.
Dead animals on the shore with trash in their mouth
with trash all around them and in ocean
4.
Swimming in an ocean full of trash

Will hemp save the world?
Over the summer I saw a post on Instagram from my friend who owns a sustainable vintage shop. The post had information about hemp being a sustainable textile. I was already aware of the medical benefits of hemp / cbd but the post sparked an interest in me to learn more about the hemp textile industry. When this project was introduced I immediately began reading articles about hemp as a sustainable source.
Upon my research I have found that Hemp can be used as:
Upon my research I have found that Hemp can be used as:
- biodegradable plastic
- paper
- food
- animal feed
- biofuel
- insulation
- and more
The list contains valuable resources that countries have gone to war over and our Earth is simply running out of. For my project I would like to create images envisioning a sustainable future ran by hemp.
potential ideas for my images are:
- Magazine covers ie. hemp fashion, medicine, architecture
- Product Ad
- Gas station supported by hemp
- Hemp online store (clothes, food, etc.)

Gaby - Project One Ideas
For my project I want to explore the future of renewable energy sources. I think it is easy for many people, especially my generation to feel discouraged and powerless in the face of global climate change and how we can play a role in it, but in my research I found information that seemed to shine a light on the possibilities. A large percent of energy in the U.S. could be powered entirely by sources like wind turbines, solar photovoltaics, concentrating solar power, biopower, geothermal, and hydropower by the year 2050. In my composite images I want to envision what that future could look like as these sort of technologies become widely used. For example, I became very interested in algae farming as a means of bioenergy. When discussing current issues facing our society, it can be overwhelming and disheartening, but I hope that my project provides some inspiration and motivation to continue being engaged in these issues.
