For my project one, I'd like to explore what the future might look like if the Amazon rainforest keeps burning at the rate it is/climate change keeps progressing at the rate it is. The Amazon is commonly thought of as the lungs of the world, but it's more like the cooling system. When the Amazon burns, carbon dioxide resting in the forest is released into the atmosphere. This contributes to the already large amount of this same gas in the atmosphere already. Also, without the Amazon to absorb the carbon dioxide that's already present in the atmosphere, more gases stay in the air as well. This affects climate, animals, people, and the land overall. I read an interesting article about how years from now, it is likely that climates will change so much that people in Washington, DC will have the same climate as people in current Mississippi. And people in Mississippi will have the same climate as that of current Mexico. I feel very concerned about this, and passionate, and I'm not totally sure what images I'll be able to use or manipulate, but I'm excited to get going.
